Tim Leatherman went and got his qualifications form Oregon State University and received top marks in mechanical engineering. Which no doubt assisted him with creating his multi tool and knife making firm.
He then started to design a pocket knife for the Boy Scout of America. It was a knife together with pliers. He continued his work on this and registered his initial patent three decades ago.
The Leatherman has seen a series of changes when it comes to locking and shutting there products each with their plusses and minuses. In 1999 they started to adopt a liner lock. This led to the tools being far easier to handle and overcame a great deal of issues.
As stated earlier, Leatherman stared making pocket knives in 2005. The edges were straight but partially serrated. In 2006 Leatherman developed a gadget to use in the garden, it was a pruner and the company even built in tools to help with gutting kills for those that hunt.
Passing out from Oregon State, Tim Leatherman received a pass in mechanical engineering. This, no doubt, aided him with developing his range of products. Later, he started developing a knife for the Boy Scout of The States. It was a knife and pliers. He kept working on this and pushed through his first patent three decades ago. He then began to see sales of his products go up when he got his knife into mail order firms including Early Winters and Cabela’s. Cabela’s is a brand that almost all of us is likely to know and is a big boost in the sale of these items.
Further down the line Leatherman switched to a larger and better facility. There was no looking back. As Leatherman established itself as a leader, not just in multi tools but in the category of pocket knives.
Three years ago Tim Leatherman was inducted to the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame at the Blade show in Atlanta, Georgia. Tim’s pocket knives and multi tools have had a huge impact in the knives industry and his multi tools are some of the most popular tools available. Even though Gerber legendary knives, and Swiss army knives make similar products, the Leatherman Tool rises above them – most notably these popular tools:
