Last Day White Tail Buck – Success Again!

2009 1231KB0015 225x300 Last Day White Tail Buck Success Again!I just completed a 12 hr night shift 6pm to 6am and finished it up on new years eve day. My wife is a new hunter and wanted to go out  for the last day.

Well that morning is was about -2 and we head for our latter stands, I spook again deer going to the stand and think my hunt is over.10 mins later a doe fawn show up and I didn’t hesitate (last day of the season, still two tags to fill) 20 yard shot and the deer goes down within site.

Called the wife on the radio and tell her to stay and hunt for a couple hours. Well the morning seemed to go well, of course the wife didn’t see anything. As the day went on I was getting tired but knew it was my wife’s last chance at a deer, of course we are party hunting.

That afternoon we were in our stands around 2:30. Well it was snowing on & off  and around 4pm a doe comes to the field down wind, she gets nervous and leaves the field.

At 4:30 a fawn shows and browses the field of wild grass, at 4:55 nice buck comes to the field gets to 50 yards and no shot big maple tree in the way, 2 does come to the field. Now I have 4 deer down wind of me.

Thank God for scent free products. The does get nervous and leave the field as quick as they entered. The buck comes to 40 yards and looks back at the does, I think he’s going to leave also, now or never I say and look for a opening through the maple tree. Ping! off goes my arrow, the buck jumps and run out of the field.

We gave the buck 20 mins and then I got down out of our stands, checked the shot area and found that my arrow had made a pass-through and there was a good blood trail. 80 yards later there he was. 190 Lbs. and 0 fat.

I think that shooting at 3D target tournaments helped me guess the distance quick on this buck.

Rutting Buck-Deer Hunting Canada

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

When hunting deer in Canada the white tail deer is the main choice for hunters. It seem that Prince Edward County in Ontario, has been a successful hunting area for many locals but only if they are very good and experienced at hunting white tail deer.

A local hunter in Prince Edward County, Bernard B. whom I’ve met and talked with a few times will tell you just how exciting and successful you can be hunting white tail deer in Canada if you know what your doing.

It was a cool calm foggy morning. Walking to my tree stand at 6:30 am I spooked a deer, but it didn’t go fare maybe 60 yards.

I waited about 10 min and quietly walked to my stand area. Being the rut was on I put out some doe in heat at 20 yards x 3.

I get settled in to my climber at 20 ft and wait 10 mins. I use a doe in heat bleat can x 2 and wait. Snap’ Deer 80 yards, down wind, the deer now at 40 yards and I can see that it’s a buck and a nice one.

He lifts his head back and smells the air , I pray that this buck doesn’t smell me, I shower and use a carbon suit, but dead down wind, but again the rut is on. He comes 30 yards and rubs a tree, of course no shot, he turns and walks through the thickest stuff around me.

2009 1119KB0001 225x300 Rutting Buck Deer Hunting CanadaI have one chance at 20 yards if only he will stop in it. I draw my bow and sure enough he stops in the exact spot I needed. Complete pass-through behind the front shoulder.

He jumps, runs 20 yards then stops, he jumps again straight in the air and off on the dead run, 60 yards, deer down. I thanked God and started shaking all over, (maybe a tear or two also).

Called the wife, she thought I fell out of my stand, (cause of being so excited).

I hunted for 14 days out of 3 weeks to get this buck and moved stands all over the county.
